Why Volunteer
A Heart For Animals is an all-volunteer organization. We rely solely on our volunteers to help us save the lives of animals. We are looking for help with events, fundraising, marketing, fostering, and much, much more!
Whether you love animals and want to donate your time, or are in transition and want to develop skills for your resume, volunteering for AFHA is a great decision!
Volunteers must be at least 10 years of age. Minors, under the age of 18 years, must be accompanied by an adult 21 years of age or older. Only 1 minor per Adult, allowed at one time.

A Heart for Animals allowed a young girl to pursue her dream of taking care of cats which has sparked an interest in a possible career as a veterinarian…
“My daughter has wanted nothing more than to take care of cats since she was 8 years old but was limited to having her own due to allergies. Unlike other animal rescues who restricted what she could do, A Heart For Animals welcomed her with open arms. At age 12, they taught her everything she needed to know about how to care for the kitties. With a guardian present (that’s me!) my daughter does all the work to take care of basic needs and provide playtime and snuggles to the cats.
She has learned how to give medicine to a sick cat, how to comfort a scared cat, and how to play with an energetic cat. She has been volunteering at the Petco room for 1 1/2 years and at age 13 has scheduled an observation opportunity with a local vet to shadow a veterinarian to determine if that is indeed the path for her.
